It's the Wizard! From Wizard of Oz! I know, you're getting tired of my crazy guesses, but I can't keep quiet just because I don't have a clue :)

If anyone gets this, I take off my hat to them!

I'll just take a wild stab in the dark and guess that it's the fifth gargoyle to the left of the west porch of St Dominic's Church in Little-Snotsbury-in-the-Grass, Sussex. Now am I right or am I right?

Come on Titus — where's your answer? Mmm ... coming a few minutes after mine, no doubt ...

We only made it so hard because some of you (locals) got the last couple so quickly!

Good golly, no time for stalking during the week!

Well, it's a woman of note on the keystone of an arch. I thought it was Elizabeth Fry but that bonnet's a bit fancy for a quaker.
Anyway, arch looks a bit Georgian so I'll go Brighton.

I'm guessing here. No idea!

I'm guessing someone Quaker as well...or a Mum who called and you came running because you didn't want to make her call you twice. :)

OK a clue. We're not as far south as we were.

So, on Day 9 Solitary Walker has worked out that this photo was taken in Oxford. The city is correct... any advance on that? And no, Titus, I've never lived or studied here. I was, as they say, at the other place.

I've completely at sea here, Rachel. However,I have a feeling it's not that old — it doesn't look like it's a church or a college or some other ancient Oxford building to me (the stone work too smooth, the carving not stone) ...

Rachel Fox said...

Depends what you call old, I suppose. It was built in the mid 1600s. We could have picked a more obvious detail from it... like something leonine.

Embarrassingly wrong there then! I'll go for St John's College and that's my final answer.

No cigar, I'm afraid. According to the map it's about a 6 minute walk from there.

Worth a visit for the great views from up high.
