I post this for any readers who don't do facebook... don't want you to miss out on the best bits (someone posted the joke above earlier this week on FB and I shared it, as you do, and it's been making me smile for the last couple of days). Opinion seems divided online as to who drew it.. some say S.Harris but the signature doesn't match for me. Someone else says it's T Russell Harris and I think they're right. The signature looks more like it and you can see more of his work here.
The subject matter is relevant here too, in a way, because this week my wee girl leaves primary school... for good! Hard to believe for some - partly because she is still very wee - but still... on she goes (and p.s. lovely Canadian song about small things here). The induction days last week gave us a bit of a taste of what's to come (longer days, some getting lost, lots of new exciting things, a bit of terror...) and now we have the summer holidays to lie low and get prepared (and walk round and round the town until she can find her way round in her sleep!). And of course what I'd really like is this (click on it to enlarge):
Little h doesn't mind the rain (she sees it as an excuse to watch movies!) but I, for one, have had enough of the wet stuff by now. The photo above was taken in Ontario last summer (west of Thunder Bay) but according to Juliet Wilson (also on FB) the sun has actually been hiding in North West Scotland recently. Come east, old friend, come east!
Anyone got any exciting plans for the summer?

Since musicians still work with real paper I still, as a music teacher, hear "the dog ate my music" story now and again!
I'm sure it is true sometimes! And that's a great title for a song...

I got lost my first day of high school. The principal's office was incredulous because my home room was maybe 20 feet from the office. What can I say - I always was a bit oblivious!
Yeh, that's the kind of thing we're talking about (stories I can't retell online - it wouldn't be fair...)! And both Mark and I were never like this so it sometimes takes us by surprise... an education for us...

I hope your wee one is OK at her new school. It always is a bit daunting. My son is off to Senior College in the New Year and I am slightly freaking out. He will be an adult soon *gulp*
Love the joke!
Summer plans? Now the football's lost any slight appeal it may have had — cooking, cleaning, washing, ironing, shopping, hoovering and arranging get-well cards on the mantelpiece in a prescribed way. (My wife has had an operation and she can't exert herself for a couple of months.)
I'm sure there'll be good days and bad days to come, Selma. Thank god for the mobile phone though - so much easier to know where she is!!
Glad to hear you're being kept busy, SW. Hope your wife (Carmen?) is doing OK.

Ah, the joyful mix of excitement tinged with a bit of terror. :) I know h will do great and she'll find her way around in no time!
Seems all my spare time is working on things for our charity. We've had an unseasonably mild June so far. And yet, for the archery "Fun Shoot" coming up this weekend, Mother Nature is threatening us with perhaps the rain from Tropical Storm Debby and temperatures up to 99 degrees (37C) on the day of our event.
Would it be okay if I sent the sun your way on Saturday, so we don't cook outdoors during our event? :)
We had a nicer day today... so few lately that we go crazy when they come!

I thought that was spam for a minute... but no, it is your summer plans!

I plan to sleep in a lot, two more days and I can switch off the alarm clock, heavenly!!!
Summer?
Shropshire has been excluded from such strange seasons for a long time.
Ah, but will the little ones let you sleep, Marion?? Otherwise it sounds like my kind of plan.
Friko - yes, I'm just being optimistic. We seem to be getting one or two nice days a fortnight just now.

they do actually, they take after me ;)
